Good evening students and parents,
This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.
Our Battle of the Books team will compete in the district elementary competition tomorrow, March 11th. We are so proud of their hard work and we wish them well. Please show your support of our Battle of the Books team by wearing blue jeans and Douglass attire on Monday.
Parents, please join us for the All County Art Show reception on March 22nd beginning at 5:00 pm. at Rockingham County Community College in the Whitcomb Student Center. Student artwork will be displayed in the Whitcomb Student Center beginning March 18th. We encourage our parents to visit the display of wonderful artwork created by our students.
If you have a rising kindergartener please join us on March 19th at Douglass Elementary beginning at 6:00 pm for a kindergarten 101 session. Mrs. June Nealy will present important information to parents of rising kindergarteners. Please remember that your child must turn 5 on or before August 31st.
Parents, our next PTO meeting will be this Tuesday, March 12th beginning at 5:30 pm in the media center. Our PTO invites you to attend the meeting as we continue to discuss the process of electing new board members and upcoming events that will be hosted by our PTO.
5th grade parents, please remember that an information session about puberty instruction will be held this Wednesday, March 13th. The meeting will be from 5:00-6:00 pm. Our school counselor, Mrs. Thackston and our PE teacher, Mr. Riddle will be hosting the event. There will be an opportunity to ask questions once the information regarding the implementation of puberty instruction has been provided. A letter was sent home with your child last week. If you do not want your child to participate please be sure to indicate on the letter that you are opting out of having your child participate and return it to school tomorrow.
Finally, our spring pictures and class picture day is this Wednesday, March 13th. Information about pictures came home with your child last week. Please be sure to read the flyer regarding payment options. Also, don’t forget that our 2023-2024 Douglass Yearbook is on sale. Yearbooks cost $20, and you can purchase them now. Be sure to get your yearbook and save these memories for a lifetime!
