AlertNow Message: April 7, 2024

Good evening students and parents,

This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.

I hope you enjoyed a restful spring break and are looking forward to finishing up the 2023-2024 school year strong.

Parents, our next PTO meeting will be this Tuesday, April 9th beginning at 5:30 pm in the media center. Our PTO invites you to attend the meeting as we will finalize plans for the remainder for the school year. We will also discuss ways in which we can recruit our parents to help serve on our PTO board next year. Douglass’ amazing PTO president, vice president and secretary will be transitioning off the board as they are parents of fifth graders. I cannot express how much I truly appreciate all that our PTO has done for our students and staff the past two years. Thank you!

Parents, report cards will be coming home with your child this Thursday, April 11th.

As we return from Spring Break I wanted to mention a few reminders. Please remember that per board policy there should be no tobacco use on campus. This includes the car rider line in the mornings and afternoons. Also, we continue to make safety our top priority, therefore if you utilize the parking lot please be sure to park in a parking spot.

Our Title 1 Move Up Night will be held on Thursday, April 25th. Grade level presentations will begin at 5:30 pm in classrooms. We look forward to having our families join us for our final parent night of the 2023-2024 school year.

Parents, if you have a rising kindergartener, kindergarten registration begins tomorrow April 8th. Douglass families will have an opportunity to meet our staff and tour a kindergarten classroom on Wednesday, April 24th from 8:00-4:00 and again on Thursday, April 25th from 3:00-6:00. Our newest Eagles and families will have an opportunity to complete registration, tour the building and receive goodies. Please remember that your child must turn 5 on or before August 31. If you have any questions please contact the school at 336-623-6521.

Finally, I am excited to announce that we will begin recognizing a K-2 class and a 3-5 class on the Monday morning announcements who have the highest attendance percentage from the previous week by placing a banner on their classroom door. Research shows as few as 2 absences a month in elementary school can lead to missing 15 days or more a year throughout a child’s education. By giving your child a routine each morning, you are helping them develop the habit of coming to school every day they are not sick.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning.

Lauryn
