Good evening students and parents,

This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.

Parents, our 5th grade Krispy Kreme fundraiser begins Monday, October 9. Individual dozen donuts will be for sale during car rider drop off and pick up during the week of October 23.

Parents, our next PTO meeting will be this Tuesday, October 10 beginning at 5:30 pm in the media center. Please consider attending this meeting as we will discuss October events such as the Trunk or Treat Read With Me on October 27.

Please remember that Rockingham County Schools will continue to require approved background checks for any chaperone or volunteer within our school that has unsupervised contact with students. All background checks are handled online, including payment, no money is sent to school. More information about background checks can be found on our district’s website under the parents & students tab. On this page you will find a section titled “Volunteer Resources.” Please click on the links located in this section to learn about the background check process. This information is important as most of our grade levels have field trips scheduled during the fall semester.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who participated in our candy bar fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who has turned in any outstanding candy money. We still have not received payment for 15 boxes of chocolate which means we still have a $940 outstanding balance. That’s a considerable amount of money that we could really use to support our students and their learning. If you have not turned in your candy money, please do that this week.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early Monday morning.

Lauryn Duncan
