Good evening students and parents,
This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.
Douglass Elementary PTO would like to invite all families to the Roll-A-Bout in Eden on Tuesday, October 17 from 5:30-7:30 pm for our School Skate Night! Don’t forget to dress up like your favorite superhero. Please remember that this is not a drop off event and an adult must accompany any student attending Skate Night.
Our PTO met last week to finalize the plans for our Trunk or Treat Read With Me night on October 27 from 5:00-7:00 at Douglass Elementary. If you are interested in decorating your car and passing out candy that night, please complete the form that was sent home with your child last week. Please be sure to turn in the completed form to your child’s teacher by Monday, October 23. More information has been posted to the Douglass Elementary PTO facebook page.
Parents, we are encouraging all staff and students to wear orange on Wednesday, October 18 as we continue to support bullying awareness.
We will have our earthquake drill on Wednesday, October 18. Please remember that we will continue to have monthly, bi-monthly and semesterly drills throughout the year.
Also, our vision and hearing screening for all K-5 students will take place on Thursday, October 19 and Friday, October 20. Please be sure that if your child wears glasses they do not forget to wear them on those days.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in our candy bar fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who has turned in any outstanding candy money. We still have not received payment for 15 boxes of chocolate which means we still have a $900 outstanding balance. That’s a considerable amount of money that we could really use to support our students and their learning. If you have not turned in your candy money, please do that this week.
Finally, I wanted to thank you all for the outpouring of support you have shown throughout my pregnancy. My maternity leave begins tomorrow, October 16 and I will not return until February 5. My family and I are extremely excited about welcoming our second baby girl Monday morning.
Mr. Dennis Paschal will be the interim principal during my maternity leave. He is the assistant principal at Wentworth Elementary and is a great friend of mine. He will do a wonderful job! Thank you as always for being a wonderful support group of Douglass Elementary!
We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early Monday morning.
Lauryn Duncan
