Good evening students and parents,

This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.

Parents, we will be welcoming our former Eagles on Monday, May 20 as Morehead High school seniors who came through Douglass Elementary will walk the halls one last time before they graduate. We are so proud of our former Douglass Eagles.

Your child's safety and academic success is very important as we continue to maintain a school in which students are our TOP priority. Rockingham County Schools and Douglass Elementary would appreciate your feedback. Please complete the Title 1/Safe Schools survey in order to help inform school improvement. Information about the survey was sent home with your child last week. You can also access the survey through dojo, our school’s website and Facebook page. Using the QR code or link, please respond to the survey questions. Thank you as always for your continued support of Rockingham County Schools and Douglass Elementary.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars! Our end of year awards assemblies are scheduled. Our Second grade awards assembly will be Monday, June 3 beginning at 8:30 am. Our third grade awards assembly will be Monday, June 3 beginning at 10:00 am and our fourth grade awards assembly will be Monday, June 3 beginning at 1:00 pm. Our kindergarten awards assembly will be Tuesday, June 4 beginning at 8:30 am. Our first grade awards assembly will be Tuesday, June 4 beginning at 10:00 am. Finally, our 5th grade graduation and awards assembly is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5 beginning at 8:30 am.

Finally, all of our 3rd-5th grade students will be taking the EOGs this week. Our students will take the ELA EOG on Wednesday, the Math EOG on Thursday and our 5th grade students will take the Science EOG on Friday. It is extremely important that all students arrive at school on time. All testing sessions will begin promptly at 8:30 am. Students who arrive after 8:30 am will not be allowed to enter their testing session and will have to complete testing on the make-up day. Please be sure that students get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast to ensure success on the test.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning.

Lauryn
