Good Evening students and parents,

This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.

Parents, please know that teachers work very hard to maintain high time on task and we certainly welcome your support. Therefore, it is important to schedule a time with your child’s teacher if you would like to visit or volunteer in the classroom.

As part of our Unapologetically Kind anti-bullying campaign this year, Rockingham County Schools is excited to host an Anti-Bullying Program for parents on Tuesday, January 10th from 6:00-7:00 pm at Wentworth Elementary school. This parent night is for all parents! Jim Jordan from Reportbullying.com will be the guest speaker and is an Anti-Bullying expert. He will offer a wonderful program full of information just for parents to better understand proactive and preventive strategies for your child! We invite you to attend this great event.

We are also excited to welcome Mr. Jim Jordan and his wife Lucy, to Douglass Elementary school on Monday, January 9th to present important information to our students. Our Functional Skills and K-2 classes will attend the presentation beginning at 12:30. Our 3-5 classes will attend the presentation beginning at 1:30.

Parents, our next PTO meeting will be this Tuesday, January 10th beginning at 5:30 pm in the media center. Our PTO invites you to attend the meeting as we plan for upcoming events including the Valentine’s Day dance.

Our Battle of the Books team will begin practicing after school from 3:00 to 4:00 pm this Thursday. If your child participates on the Battle of the Books team please be sure their ride is here at 4:00 pm.

Parents, we will celebrate classes who have demonstrated SOAR expectations throughout the first semester on Thursday, January 12th with an ice cream party beginning at 1:15 pm. We appreciate your continued support of student behavior.

Finally, we will have our first semester awards assembly on Friday, February 3rd. Our FS and K-2 class assemblies will be held from 8:30-9:30 am, our 3rd and 4th grade class assemblies will be held from 10:00-11:00 am and our 5th grade awards assembly and DARE graduation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm. We invite parents to attend these assemblies as we recognize student excellence at Douglass Elementary school.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning.
