Good Evening students and parents,

This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.

Our spring fundraiser began last Thursday. Information was sent home with your child. Thursday. Please know that there is an option to order items online and have those items shipped directly to your home. The fundraiser will end February 9th. Items such as cookie dough will be delivered to Douglass Elementary on March 9th. More information about picking up fundraiser items that have been delivered to the school will be sent home at a later time.

Douglass Elementary PTO would like to invite all families to the Roll-A-Bout in Eden on Tuesday, January 31 from 5:30-7:30 pm for our Skate Night! Please remember that this is not a drop off event and an adult must accompany any student attending Skate Night.

Our Battle of the Books team will practice after school from 3:00 to 4:00 pm this Thursday. If your child participates on the Battle of the Books team please be sure their ride is here at 4:00 pm.

Please remember that Rockingham County Schools will continue to require approved background checks for any chaperone or volunteer within our school that has unsupervised contact with students. All background checks are handled online, including payment, no money is sent to school. More information about background checks can be found on our district’s website under the parents & students tab. On this page you will find a section titled “Volunteer Resources.” Please click on the links located in this section to learn about the background check process. This information is important as most of our grade levels have field trips scheduled during the spring semester.

Finally, we will have our first semester awards assembly this Friday, February 3rd. Our K-2 class assemblies will be from 8:30-9:30 am, our 3rd and 4th grade class assemblies will be from 10:00-11:00 am and our 5th grade awards assembly and DARE graduation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm. We invite parents to attend these assemblies as we recognize student excellence at Douglass Elementary school.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning.
