AlertNow Message: Feb. 26, 2023

Good Evening students and parents,

This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.

5th grade parents, you are invited to a 5th grade Parent Night at Holmes Middle school tomorrow, February 27. The parent information session will begin at 5:30. You will be provided information regarding the transition from 5th grade to 6th grade. You will also have an opportunity to tour Holmes Middle school with your child.

We will be celebrating “Read Across America Week” this week. Please join us in celebrating by having your child wear their favorite hat on Monday, celebrating the silly fox by wearing our wildest socks on Tuesday, recognizing all that is tacky by wearing mismatched clothes that make us look tacky on Wednesday, it’s hard to get out bed some days so on Thursday, no need to get dressed; wear pajamas instead, and on Friday we encourage all students to dress up like a character from their favorite book because we know their costumes will be off the hook.

Our Battle of the Books team will practice after school from 3:00 to 4:00 pm this Wednesday. If your child participates on the Battle of the Books team please be sure their ride is here at 4:00 pm.

Douglass Elementary PTO would like to invite all families to the Roll-A-Bout in Eden on Tuesday, February 28 from 5:30-7:30 pm for our Skate Night! Come dressed in your pajamas! Please remember that this is not a drop off event and an adult must accompany any student attending Skate Night.

Parents and students, we are excited to begin fundraising for Special Olympics in the classrooms. Each grade level will begin collecting donations on March 1 until April 5. The grade that raises the most money will be able to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt on April 6th at school. Also, Mrs. James’ and Mrs. Peach’s classes will sell Easter grams the morning from 7:20-7:50 am in the clearstory beginning April 3rd. The last day Easter grams will be sold on April 5th.

Parents, if you have a rising kindergartener please join us on March 21 at Douglass Elementary beginning at 6:00 pm for a kindergarten 101 session. Mrs. June Nealy will present important information to parents of rising kindergarteners. Please remember that your child must turn 5 on or before August 31.

Our Spring Book Fair will begin Monday, March 6 and end March 10. Information about the Book Fair will come home with your child this week.

Our spring pictures and class picture day is March 15th. Information about pictures will come home with your child this week. Please be sure to send in your order form and money for individual and class pictures before March 15.

A sneak peek of our 2022-2023 Douglass Yearbook Cover will be sent out this week on Dojo. Online sales have started! Each yearbook is $20, and you can purchase now at https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/ with ID Code 14915823. Physical sales will begin this week. Order forms will be sent home this week. Be sure to get your yearbook and save these memories for a lifetime!

One final reminder, cookie dough ordered for our school’s fundraiser, will be delivered to our school the morning of March 9. A message will be sent to you once the delivery has been made and the orders have been organized. You will then have the opportunity to come to the school and pick up the cookie dough between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm on March 9. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school at 336-623-6521.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning.
