Good evening students and parents,
This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.
Parents, Mrs. Peach and Mrs. James’ classes will be selling Valentine’s Day Candy Grams beginning Monday, February 12 from 7:20-7:45 in the clearstory. Candy grams are $1 and the last day to purchase a candy gram is Wednesday, February 14. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to Rockingham County Special Olympics..
Parents, we are excited to celebrate the 100th day of school, Monday, February 12th. Please encourage your child to participate in celebrating this great accomplishment.
Douglass Elementary will celebrate Bus Driver Appreciation Week each day this week. The safe transportation of our students day in and day out is one of the most important jobs at our school. Please join me in celebrating this week by showing appreciation for your child’s bus drivers.
Our Battle of the Books team will compete in the first elementary preliminary round this Tuesday. We are so proud of their hard work and we wish them well. Please show your support of our Battle of the Books team by wearing blue jeans and Douglass attire on Tuesday.
Parents, our next PTO meeting will be this Tuesday, February 13th beginning at 5:30 pm in the media center. Our PTO invites you to attend the meeting as we will finalize plans for the Valentine’s Day dance. We will also discuss ways in which we can recruit our parents to help serve on our PTO board next year. Douglass’ amazing PTO president and vice president will be transitioning off the board as they are parents of fifth graders. I cannot express how much I truly appreciate all that our PTO has done for our students and staff the past two years. Thank you!
Also, our PTO sponsored Valentine’s dance is this Friday, February 16th from 2:45-4:30 pm. The PTO will crown a prince and princess for grades preK-2 and a king and queen for grades 3-5 at the Valentine’s dance. Please be sure that permission slips and money for the dance are turned in as soon as possible.. Students who do not have a permission slip will not be permitted to stay after school for the dance. To ensure the safety of all students, dismissal from the dance will follow our same car rider dismissal routine. Parents will need to stay in their cars, utilize the drive thru as we call students to cones.
5th grade parents, you are invited to a 5th grade Parent Night at Holmes Middle school on Tuesday, February 20. You will be provided information regarding the transition from 5th grade to 6th grade. You will also have an opportunity to tour Holmes Middle school with your child.
We hope you enjoy the rest of your evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning.
