Good Evening, students and parents. This is Dennis Paschal, interim principal at Douglass Elementary calling with a few reminders.

The night of December 7 is a big night at our school! The staff of Douglass Elementary would like to invite you to Mad Science Night on Thursday, December 7, from 6:00 to 7:30. First, we will have a Christmas performance from the Douglass Elementary Chorus. Then, we will have a presentation from the scientists of Mad Science. Mad Science will be sending scientists to Douglass to conduct hands-on science activities that are grade-level appropriate and aligned with the science curriculum. The show will last approximately one hour. We can handle up to 300 students. This activity will take place in our gym. Please be sure to return your invitations on time so we can make sure we have plenty of seating available. Before the show starts, we invite you to come early and preview/shop the PTO Christmas Store from 4:30 to 5:30.

Students will have the opportunity to shop at the PTO Christmas store during their assigned class time beginning December 8th through the 15th. The store will also be open from 7:20-7:45 and 1 to 2:15 on December 18th-15th.

We would like to invite all of our students to celebrate our countdown to Winter Break! On Monday, Dress Like a Reindeer, On Tuesday, show off your best holiday bling, on Wednesday, it’s Grinch Day, so wear your green, on Thursday, December 7, dress like an elf, and on Friday, December 8, get decked out in your favorite holiday shirt or sweater.

A remote learning letter and packet will be sent home with your child on Friday, December 8th. Please be sure to read the letter as it specifies when your child needs to complete the attached assignments. Your child does not need to complete the assignments attached unless we have winter weather and a message from our district indicates a remote learning day.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in our annual Social Emotional Learning Survey. This survey is designed to collect data about how we as a district can serve the social and emotional needs of our students. Students will have to “opt in” to participate in this survey if you choose. Letters either came home with your child Friday or will come home, tomorrow, December 4th with instructions on how to opt in. We will also post information on Class Dojo about how to opt in. You may visit and click on the “RCS SEL Student Survey Opt in” as well. The window for opting in December 4th-13th

We hope you have a great evening and we look forward to seeing you bright and early tomorrow morning.
